Word From the Principal

Week 4 7th November Term 4 2018

Kia ora I apologise for the day late in our newsletter. Our Athletics Day is always a huge day of fun for everyone, but we are back onto it today. The children had such a good day, with one wee fella telling me it was his best day at school. We try to keep school fun for all of our children as best we can here of course.

Disco and Fireworks Night Thursday 15th November. NOTE DATE  due to clashes is is now next week. Our Year 6 students are organising our event as a fundraiser towards their annual end of year excursion. Our Year 6 children complete their time at Rotokawa School with a trip up Mt Tarawera inspiring them to climb to lofty heights in their future, but not forget they are part of our Rotokawa Whanau as they go onto the next part of their educational journey. Come along for a fun night of catching up with other families before Christmas.

Strike Action  TUESDAY 13th NOVEMBER Teachers are really saddened, but resolute with the negotiation outcomes so far this year. We have voted to take strike action again. The date for Rotorua is 13th November. School will not be open on Tuesday. Skids, our after school care programme is available for the day. Pop in and see Tasha after school to make any arrangements you need to. Thank you for your support and patience in this on-going matter.

Mount Beach and Hot Pools Day  We have finalised and confirmed our transport and booking for 6th December. We travel by bus and the whole school goes. It is an awesome way we spend time together before the end of the school year. Please pay your $20 at the office or online. The permission slip will be coming home for you to complete but I will also attach a copy of it to the calendar here and in Skool Loop.

Assessment Weeks each child has a range of assessments undertaken at this time of the year. This data informs them, their school reports and their teachers of  where they are at. Thank you for having the children at school each day so we can get on with this work.

Attendance We set an aspirational target for the whole school to be at school 95% of the year. That is not too high an expectation, as it would mean a child may have up to 8 or 9 days off sick across the year.  Each day missed for no particular reason is a day lost in the continuity of learning and socialising with classmates, so thank you for supporting us through to the end of the year.

Have a really great week ahead.

Nga mihi
