Room 1 students and teachers have been looking into Respecting our environment through the concept,
‘Ko au te whenua, ko te whenua ko au – I am the land and the land is me.’
In order to protect our native plants and animals, we planned, wrote about and created tracking tunnels that we have been monitoring. The results on the tracking cards have been quite astonishing! The results have created a lot of discussions around what we all notice and therefore think.
We have also written persuasive writing to the rest of the school to encourage them to leave our tracking tunnels alone.
Along with compromise, decision making, team work, articulation, discussion, problem solving and planning, the curriculum areas of science, math, reading, writing, social sciences, Te Reo and technology have all been interweaved throughout the learning.
